Alafia Violin Studio offers the finest quality private instruction in the area, specializing in Suzuki as well as traditional violin and viola instruction. Founded by Alda Hilsinger, Alafia Violin Studio offers weekly private lessons as well as group lessons for each student. Firmly rooted in the tenets of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, Alafia Violin Studio believes in fostering a warm, encouraging environment where each and every child can learn to play. Mrs. Hilsinger is currently accepting students of all ages to learn to play the violin or viola. Lessons take place at First United Methodist Church in Brandon.
Alda S. Hilsinger is a trained Suzuki teacher and a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Alda began her training on violin at age three in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, home of the American Suzuki Institute, under the tutelage of Kyoko Fuller and Margery Aber, both students of Dr. Suzuki. She mastered all 10 Suzuki Books by age 12. Shortly thereafter, she moved to New York State to study with Anastasia Jempelis at The Eastman School of Music, also a pioneer of the Suzuki Method in the United States. Alda holds a diploma from The Juilliard School, as well as a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Rice University in Violin and Viola Performance. She is also a certified in Music by the state of Florida and has taught Orchestra for the past 8 years in Hillsborough County. She has taught thousands of students in both private and large group settings over the past 20 years.
Alda has performed at some of the world’s most important venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Festival appearances include Bowdoin (ME), Music Academy of the West (CA), Meadowmount (NY), ENCORE School for Strings (OH), Killington Music Festival (VT), Musicorda (MA) and Schleswig-Holstein Festival (Germany). In 1999, Alda was invited by Maestro Jaime Laredo to perform as a member of the New York String Orchestra Seminar in Carnegie Hall where she performed a special concert on Christmas Eve. Alda has collaborated with artists such as Kurt Sanderling, Stefan Sanderling, Christoph Eschenbach, members of the Houston Symphony, and the Florida Orchestra. She is a frequent performer with The Florida Orchestra in their Masterworks Series.
